The San Martín region, with a total extension equivalent to the size of Costa Rica, is home to a mountainous tropical forest with a wide variety of flora and fauna, which you can visit in extraordinary places such as the Río Abiseo National Park, located near Juanjui, about 3 hours from Tarapoto.
Within this protected area is also the Gran Pajatén archaeological site, which can only be visited with a special permit. However, there are other areas that can be visited with guided tours, either in a full day or for more days.
You can visit throughout the year, but consider that the dry season is from May to October and the rainy season is between December and March.
